Graham Stewart

Silversmith Chased Silver Goblets

Background:
Graham Stewart studied Silversmithing and Jewellery at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen. He is a designer, second generation silver and goldsmith who has been running his workshop and gallery in Dunblane since 1978. Graham specialises in fine hand-cut engraving and chasing. He produced items for the Millennium Collection at the First Minister’s residence in Edinburgh. He was commissioned by the Incorporation of Goldsmiths of the City of Edinburgh to create a sculpture which was presented at the opening of the new Scottish Parliament building by Her Majesty the Queen.

Influences:
There are echoes of early Scottish silver in his work and he is always striving to bring something fresh to the tradition, often making reference to the natural world. Graham enjoys designing for different scales from finely inlaid jewellery to large pieces of commemorative silver.

Exhibitions & Collections:
His work is widely collected and held in Royal and Public Collections including Victoria & Albert Museum; The Scottish Parliament, Holyrood; The British Embassy, Washington D.C.; City of Birmingham Art Galleries; Aberdeen Art Gallery. Private Collections: HM The Queen; HRH The Princess Royal; HRH The Duke of Rothesay.

Graham was recently awarded (June 2010) an Honorary Degree of Doctor of the University of Stirling for his outstanding contribution to the Arts and Crafts in Scotland.
